Words escape me

Sgt. Richard Merenda. Do any of you know this name? I sure don't, but what I do know is he is the man who gave Aviana her first chance on this long journey of recovery.

The road could have ended on that street, at that time, in that particular place. Richard Merenda jumped in and saved our little girl. I will never truly be able to express my, and my families, gratitude toward this heroic man.

When he arrived on the scene, Aviana had no pulse. He didn't hesitate. He sprang into action. He, and his friend (whom to my understanding helped Gary) selflessly aided two complete strangers. A testament to the power and generosity of everyday people.

At some point, we'll meet. As I hug them both, I already know I'll never want to let go. They waited for hours in the emergency room for any news. Richard Merenda came back later with a little stuffed horse for Aviana. I'll carry that horse with me every step of the way.

Awaiting any news, wondering, hoping, the horse is with me....they are with me! I don't know you yet, but what I do know is ~ I love you!

  1. I just wanted to say that I am Richard Merenda's mother, Deborah. And that day our son dropped by home just because he hurt so badly for your little girl, he needed his own mom to comfort as he told the story how he did all he could to try and save your little girl. He has a little 5 1/2 yr old girl and a 10 month old girl, and he said to me all he could think of is his own laying there. He brought tears to my eyes of pride that somehow I must have done something right as a mother to raise a man that would jump in to try and save a life than to stand by and watch.

I want you and your family to know that all of his family is also praying for your little girl to come out of this horrible time, with little giggles and her arms once again able to hold you, her mommy. We will keep watching for how she does. Bless you and yours..

  3. My name is Crystal and I am Richard's sister-in-law. I just want to say that my husband and I are praying for your family. Aviana sounds like a fighter and it sounds like things will be back to normal real soon. I also wanted to say that my heart filled with pride when i read this blog and heard about how he was able to help. He was definitely in the right place at the right time. My brother in-law is a good man and i'm also proud and thankful for his service in the military. I am lucky to know him
