Reoccurring Question

One single question continues to come up throughout our time in hospital land. Do you have a support system? This question is usually followed up with, who is within your support system? Are these people in town? Do these people help out with visits to the hospital? Is there anything else you may need or anyone else you may want to talk to?

The first time I answered these questions, my response was so mechanical, almost robotic in nature. Yes, I have many family and friends. Yes, most are in town. Yes, they all come to the hospital. No, I can’t think of anything or anyone else I need.

Over time, these simple questions would linger for long periods of time within me. I feel so incredibly grateful for every single one of my family members and friends. I am so grateful for my wonderful neighbors. I am so grateful for every person I have met along this journey. I am so grateful for every comment made in support and love through this blog. I am so grateful for all of the people who follow along silently in support.

I cannot imagine going through a tragedy of this magnitude, and then, having to answer no, I do not have anyone and yes, I need someone to talk to.

I thank each and every one of you who have rallied around our little family and taken care of us in every way possible. The outpouring of love and support from all of you is what life is all about!

Thank you!

  1. Thank you Jen for keeping us all updated on Aviana's recovery. Aviana is so lucky to have you, she couldn't of got a better mommy than you. I still continue to think of Aviana everyday and pray for her. Hopefully she will be home soon!

  4. Yes, you are a wonderful mom! I'm learning a lot from you. For instance, I'm now planning to write letters once a year to my children too to give them when they get older. I'm so caught up in changing diapers for "2 under 2" that I forget to do these special things!

I can't wait to visit you when Aviana comes home!

  6. I am so proud of you and your strength. How you are staying strong thru all of this amazes me. I feel guilty for sometimes allowing myself to become so overwelmed with my own health, and then I think of all you have been going thru and I wish I had that strength.
Stay strong..and thank you so much for sharing your strength, it helps.
    Much love and hugs,

  7. One thing that I have found amazing through the adoption process is the instant concern we Guat-families have for every child adopted from Guatemala. Not to say we don't have concern for children in general; however, there is a connection with Guat-families that you can't really explain to folks. We have a bond because of the struggles we faced to bring our children home--that's a given. But more than that, we also have a strong sense of protection for all the precious Guat-children. I know every Guat-family, including those of us who you don't know, is your support system in spirit. We all feel your pain and are holidng Avi in our thoughts every day. You go girl!
