It's All the Rave...

in the world of brain-injury, that is! When you have to mask her from morning until night, this is what often happens throughout the day!

  1. Jen - What is the mask for? Oxygen? Protection against germs? Protecting an incision?

She's beautiful even WITH a plastic mask comin' off the top of her cute head :)

  2. Hi Andrea~

It's actually for her to breathe in her own carbon dioxide for 55 seconds, which expands the blood vessels and brings more oxygen to her brain. The masking helps to reduce her rigidity, helps her to swallow better and if she were having seizures, would reduce those as well.

Thank you for your comment :o)

  4. Oh the hoops you must jump through on a daily basis - Jen you work so hard to bring the best to your little angel! Only Aviana could make an otherwise ordinary looking plastic mask look so darn cute!

  9. What a doll! Masking really seems to be so important to do. It is amazing what the body can do to help heal. Amazing!
    Keep working hard you guys!

  10. Wow...that is quite interesting! Seems to bad there isn't an easier way to 'adhere' it so her 55 seconds can get done "easier". I suppose she has to do this several times/day....wow.

You rock sista! I often think of you during the day...When I am feeling tired, I picture you hitting pans, poking with toothpicks, masking, ramping, et al ... and I suddenly feel that I need to better at counting blessings that counting time outs...

    My prayers are yours!

Avi has a lot of Love all around her.
She has this look of patience.
Thank-you for explaining what masking is for.
