My Little Cheerleader

I promise you, I did not position her fingers like that! I think it is either how she feels about physical therapy ~or~ me : ) As part of Aviana's daily therapy, we pull her arm down, hold it and then lift it over her head. She used to not even be able to do the first part of this. While we would hold her arm above her head, she would cry the entire time and just want to bring it down immediately. My Uncle Roger was working with her on Friday and after he let her arm go, she left it above her head. We were shocked. She kept looking from her arm to my Uncle Roger. She looked like she was saying, "Do you see that? Do you see how well I am holding my arm?" We couldn't believe our eyes. She was moving her arms all around. She must have really enjoyed this new skill because she continued doing it the entire weekend. She looked so cute, I couldn't stop taking pictures! She also did quite a bit of sitting on her own. She is getting stronger and stronger with each passing day!! I think both of them are getting a little tired of the "Aviana & Kama" photo shoots. I have to admit, for every picture I post....I took at least 15 more.

  3. I've been following along although I don't always comment. Just wanted to let you know that we're all cheering Avi on! And I believe you take at least 15 more pictures for every 1 that you post! That's what proud Mamas do, and you have a lot to be proud of! It's about documenting every milestone your child reaches!

  8. And just think, there was a time not too long ago that people said she would not be able to do anything, well she must be a puppet on strings. I am so proud of that little girl, she is a fighter for sure.

  12. She does look like she's enjoying herself. I am so proud of your little girl! Little by little, day by day, she keeps proving those doctors wrong. Maybe she's giving the finger the Mr. Brain Injury, because she sure loves her momma. :)

  13. Awesome! It is amazing how the brain can recover from such trauma. All the therapy and stimulation are what gets it done. The brain can repair itself and even redirect the neurons from the other parts.

  16. that is amazing to see her sitting their by herself! I love that you are documenting all of it, because in a few years it will really remind you of how far she has come in really a hosrt amount of time, and I love the shots with Kama, no better therapy then an animal. I worked doing therapuetic riding (I am a horse person) Animals connect so differntly with kids then just therapy so you might want to consider something like that at some point. It works on their core strength and balance plus their movement mimicks the way we move at the walk as well. You could just try out a few times at a real therapuetic riding center and then always contact a pony club or horse barn that might give lessons and see if they cold do some similar things for cheaper. Just some ideas, if you lived by me I would offer you one of our horses. YOu know how it is with animals its therapy but the child doesn't see it as therapy in the same way.

  18. There is a horse therapy center in the area that will do therapy at no cost. I think it would be awesome for Avi, too. I miss having a horse. :)
