Black Beauties

Look who came to visit my dad, a mama bear and her little cub. Aren't they the cutest. Especially the picture towards the bottom with the cub looking down at her from the tree.

  1. The cutest! No wonder there are millions of teddy bears sold every year. They look so snugly and warm. Unfortunately we would be missing a face if we tried to get up close and personal.

  2. Quick Bear lesson. California only has Black Bears. Black Bears can come in three colors, called color phases, black, brown and blonde. I've seen all three colors phases. Best one was one Memorial Day weekend outside Markleeville CA. That bear was blonde all over except for it ears and nose. It was a beautifull bear.

    1. Thank you! I thought I was being cute by matching the book, but definitely not accurate! It's best to be accurate so I changed my title : ) I had no idea they came in color phases. That is fascinating. I once saw one cross the freeway in Tahoe that was blonde...I had no idea it was a black bear!! That's amazing.

The one you saw sounds like an absolute beauty!!

By the way, these 2 made their appearance on Memorial Day weekend as well : )

  3. I hope I didn't come across wrong. As an outdoorsman I come across many folks who don't realize that black bears can have different colors and subsequently think they saw a 'brown' bear. No problem and what great pics your Dad got. Tons of bears in Tahoe. It is truly an awesome place.

    1. Oh my gosh no! I didn't know they were black bears and I definitely didn't know there were different shades. So good to know! I should tell you a little about myself...I am always up for a lesson (that's why I love hanging with my Uncle Roger so much ; ) and it takes A LOT to come across wrong or offend me ; )

I agree. I couldn't believe the pictures they got. The dogs started barking first, and then my nephew and Dad saw them and ran down to get some pictures. My nephew got the last 2. The last 2 got slightly distorted when I put them on the blog. The mama and cub look a little wider than the original. It's good they won't see them, they might think the camera always adds 10 pounds : )
